A technological phenomenon as complex and popular as the iPhone is bound to be riddled with issues. >>>A technological phenomenon as complex and popular as the iPhone is bound to be riddled with issues. Unfortunately, some of the issues are rather deal-breaking as they take away some of the major functions of the iPhone. With the millions sold throughout the world, it's no wonder that some of these problems are thoroughly documented and researched, though Apple often refuses to take an official stance on the problems, stating it's the user's fault. To provide a bigger picture, here are some of the problems that can plague the fourth generation of Apple's prime product.
Antenna Location
Perhaps the most critical issue of the lot, many users have reported serious issues with reception to the main carrier AT&T. As these are the exclusive carriers for the phone, it's a big inconvenience for new-buyers. The reception issue stems from the location of the antenna and the way the user holds the gadget. With their palm on the back and their fingers gripping one side with the thumb on the other, this is not only the primary way of holding any mobile phone, but it's also what some call the 'Deathgrip' as it kills almost all reception, sometimes to the point where phone calls are dropped. This is a big loss in functionality and Apple's only stance on the subject is to purchase additional accessories, such as the bumper case.
Fragile Materials
Another of the critical weaknesses in Apple's prime gadget is that the primary material the phone is coated in is glass. While it's claimed to be more than tenfold stronger than plastic, it doesn't make it impervious to damage. There have been widespread reports of minor falls leading to full-blown glass shattering or at least a nasty crack. Like the previous issue, the only real solution is to purchase additional peripherals, such as the bumper case.
Rear-Camera White Balance Problems
The mobile phone has become the source of many impromptu digital photography moments, as the ease with which the users can pull it out and snap a picture is unparalleled. Unfortunately, Apple's phone has issues with the white balance in low light, so any pictures taken in the evening, indoors or other potentially low-light areas will result in the overall image being somewhat yellowed. This is an important consideration if you wanted to make use of the high-quality camera that comes with the phone.
Screen Discoloration
The vibrant screen can sometimes show some yellow discoloration, resulting in blotches over the screen. Certainly not pretty to look at and very impractical, it seems to be a case of the materials not being treated properly before release. While some report this solving itself over time, it's not a sure solution.
