>>>A high school teacher from Parkway North High School in St. Louis was fired because of her past - she was a porn film star in the early 1990's.
Tera Myers, whose stage name was Rikki Andersin, said she made the movies when she was living in California, working as an exotic dancer to make ends meet.
Clearly, conservative parents will not like their children near an ex-porn star. Perhaps Myers loves teaching, but accountability is a part of one's professional life. Being an ex- porn star will jeopardize her relationship with her students and the parents. In a different field perhaps, her past might be excusable, but it's hard to imagine a school - or parents - that would accept Myers as a teacher.
However, many people disagree with this. Why are we destroying someone's livelihood just because of her past? Are we labeling her because she was once a porn star? A lot have viewed this as outdated, Puritan, and self-righteous. These conservative parents and schools are just imposing their self-righteous standards on people and labeling them as "unfit" to be with their kids.
What's important is her ability to teach not her porn star past.
