Two Middle School principals take different views to the 8th grade prom. One deems it an important part of the transition between middle school and high school—to show them what they can expect in high school and perhaps lessen the pressures that comes with the high school prom. The other finds that it is more important to make sure that the middle school kids retain their innocence before they go off to high school.

It may seem like those who find the 8th grade prom necessary recognize the sad fact that some students never even reach their prom. But perhaps a change of focus on such things is also a refreshing and important change in middle school.

But prom or not, attention must be paid to these teenagers.
