Scholars are saying that the whites are now showing signs of racial anxiety. In recent poll surveys, most Caucasians identify discrimination against them as being just as serious as bigotry aimed at blacks and other minorities. Gender and race-specific scholarships are now being offered to white men and the U.S. Census Bureau project that whites will become a minority by the year 2050, fueling fears that whiteness no longer represents the norm.
Author Tim Wise blamed the recession and said that more “whites” are sharing unemployment lines with the blacks, Asians and Hispanics. Wise also said that the face of America is changing. American culture has become so multicultural that many of the nation's icons -- including celebrities, sports heroes, and other leaders -- are people of color.
