Piers Morgan promised that when he arrived on American television, taking the Larry King evening slot on CNN, the Richter scale would shake.



And sure enough, that's happening.



Unfortunately for Morgan, it's not him they're talking about. They're still talking about Ricky Gervais, his fellow British import who hosted Sunday night's Golden Globes with a tongue of many razors.



In contrast, Morgan's debut last night had him interviewing Oprah Winfrey, and while that's an A-list "get" in the media biz, it also means he was talking with someone that people see talking on television every day.



And someone who has made a career out of rarely saying anything the Richter scale would even notice.



Morgan showed himself to be a serious, well-prepared interviewer, considerably more linear than his predecessor.
