There are rumors that George Lucas is planning to create another Star Wars trilogy. However, George Lucas won’t be directing it. Kevin Smith, the creator of the Jay and Silent Bob films, purchased the movie rights to Episodes 7, 8, and 9 from George Lucas and will start filming sometime in the fall of 2012.



A lot of Star Wars fans were disappointed with the last 3 prequels that followed Return of the Jedi. Their main concern about the creation of another trilogy is that it may further dampen the interest in the Star Wars legacy. Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones series and Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather series encountered such a decrease in interest. However, some fan argue that another trilogy may actually rekindle the Star Wars fever of the 70s like what happened to the 2009 Star Trek movie, which not only gained a wider audience but became the highest grossing movie of the series.
