A man from Washington state spent a weekend in jail after a Chase bank employee allegedly called the police over a check. Construction worker Ikenna Njoku went to a Chase bank to cash an $8,000 check, sent to him by Chase, but the person behind the counter reportedly became suspicious. The police were called and Ikenna Njoku was hauled off to jail.
The check had Ikenna Njoku’s name and address on it, and was totally legitimate. And the bank reportedly realized its mistake the next day. But a call to the detective investigating the case apparently wasn’t received quickly, because that detective was out of the office. So Ikenna Njoku spent the weekend languishing in jail simply because he tried to cash a check and get his money.
Ikenna Njoku says that he lost his job because he was in jail and couldn’t show up for work. He also says his car was towed during that time and sold. And although the incident happened a year ago, the bank has apparently not got around to issuing even an apology to Njoku. Oh, wait, now that the story is hitting the headlines, they suddenly managed to apologize. After a year, they say they’re now working ‘quickly’ to resolve the situation.
