With the capabilities of ultrasound, families in India can now determine the sex of a child before he or she is born. Unfortunately, in a country that values the birth of sons, not a few are choosing to undergo the sex-selective abortions of girls. What is even more alarming is that a study shows that the practice of sex-selective abortion is rising the most significantly among the more affluent and educated.
