>>>Senior Pentagon officials have sounded off the alarm that making more cost reductions in defense spending will jeopardize national security. Not only that, it can result in seeing thousands of Defense Department employees being furloughed or laid off from military programs.
President Obama has signed a debt reduction bill that reduces Pentagon spending by as much as $400 billion for the next 10 years. This has prompted Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta and other Pentagon officials are asking that Congress look elsewhere in the federal budget for the savings they need or perhaps raise taxes instead rather than push through with the defense cuts.
In a message to Defense Department employees, Panetta called the projected additional half a trillion dollars cut in defense spending as “completely unacceptable.”
