>>>The Colorado Supreme Court has upheld an earlier jury verdict that awarded $10 million to a truck driver who slipped and fell on ice while making deliveries to a Wal-Mart store in north Colorado. The truck driver, Holly Averyt, was unable to return to work, lost her truck, as well as underwent three surgeries to her spine as a result of that accident.
Averyt’s lawyers were able to present city documents during the original trial that showed that some grease from the store's deli didn't get trapped in a device designed to keep it from getting into the sewer. That grease found its way to where Averyt slipped which led to her getting the kind of injuries she did.
Some people are speculating, though, that Wal-Mart may be more intent on finding legal ways and means to avoid paying the $10 million in damages over paying Averyt and getting the whole thing done with and behind them.
