For the past week, high profile crimes have been reported. One of the most recent to hit the news is the murder of UP Los Banos student Given Grace Cebanico. Cebanico's body was found dumped near the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB) road in UPLB. Her cellular phone, laptop and wallet were missing. She was reportedly raped before she was killed. Cebanico's body was found dumped near the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB) road in UPLB. Her cellular phone, laptop and wallet were missing. She was reportedly raped before she was killed. Suspects have been rounded up. Security guard Lester Rivera and tricycle driver Percival de Guzman are already in police custody and are facing charges of homicide with rape.



There has been calls by some people to revive the death penalty to reduce the crime rate with the assumption that having the death penalty as a punishment for heinous crimes can deter such crimes in the immediate future.
