>>>Just like most plastic surgeries, breast augmentation first began as a way to reconstruct the body after surgery or to correct a defect in the development of the breasts. Since then however, breast implants have become more commonplace with many Hollywood starlets being unwitting participants in the tabloids' favorite game of of "Did she?" or "Didn't She?"- which if nothing else seems like a good way to get a mention in page 6. Second only perhaps to a nose job (or closely followed by it,) going up to a D-cup seems like a sure way that you're going to get noticed.
It's undeniable that society seems to have a strange obsession with breasts which in turn is driving more and more women whose ages are definitely getting younger and younger to go for breast implants. If you think about it, they're there for a purely biological reason:provide nutrition for babies. Besides almost half of the world's population has a pair, even your mother. Well, so do men, but they don't really like talking about it.
If you're deciding to take the plunge and accentuate your cleavage (among other things) via plastic surgery, it would be good for you to decide on what kind of breast implants you'll opt for. In the interest of full disclosure I should note that I'm not a medical professional and it's best to consult a licensed doctor in deciding whether or not breast implants are right for you, and if so, which option is best. That said, from my research, there are two kinds of breast implants, saline and silicone.
Saline breast implants, as their name suggests, are silicon shells inserted behind the chest muscle then filled with saline. They're also at least a thousand dollars cheaper. But they do not feel natural which can cause pain for the woman.
On the other hand, silicon breast implants are pre-filled with a thick, sticky silicon gel which has the same consistency of human fat. Because of this, they are usually perceived as more natural than their saline counterparts.
Though the decision concerning which kind if breast implants to get should also be determined by your own body. For women with relatively moderate breast size and with healthy breast tissue along with a good amount of fatty tissue, saline is recommended. While woman with smaller breasts and minimal fatty tissue, the silicone breast implants would be better since there is less chance of visible rippling.
Another variable would be the effects of each kind of breast implants if something goes wrong. When a saline breast implant ruptures, it is easier to detect because it tends to lose volume rapidly and the saline can be absorbed into the body without risk of toxicity. While a rupture of a silicone breast implant is not as simple and needs an MRI for confirmation, silicone has not been proven to cause any long-term health risks but may have adverse effects if absorbed by the body.
But it must be noted that both kinds of breast implants have similar risks to woman, such as the possibility of infection or breast pain. It can also alter breast sensitivity, and neither breast implants has been proven to be less susceptible to implant leakage and rupture. Both kinds are also susceptible to the growth of scar tissue that can change the shape of the breast or capsular contracture, although this risk is a reduced with saline breast implants.
As with anything that has to do with your body, a good long talk with a board certified plastic surgeon is still recommended as I am not a medical professional and this is based on high level research. But what do you think? Are you in the market for breast implants? Do you know which kind will work better for you? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
