It may surprise you but carrying a condom in New York may result in getting you in the slammer if you’re suspected of having the intent to commit prostitution. Needless to say, but I’ll say it anyway, you can be arrested and prosecuted for being prudent enough to want to engage in safe sex. The policy seems inadvertently designed to lead to even bigger problems, like sexually transmitted diseases, should people think its safer to not have “evidence” around to avoid being apprehended by the police.
