Read more …The medical community still has no united stand over whether circumcision newborn boys is a good idea, health-wise, or not. Although the number of neonatal circumcision is going down, there are still more than half of new born boys in America that undergo the procedure.
The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend routine neonatal circumcision. This is because the reported medical benefits - which include a slightly lower risk of urinary tract infections early in life, a lower risk of rare penile cancer and a lower risk of sexually transmitted infections later - are not significant enough to justify the need for the procedure.
