The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend routine neonatal circumcision. This is because the reported medical benefits - which include a slightly lower risk of urinary tract infections early in life, a lower risk of rare penile cancer and a lower risk of sexually transmitted infections later - are not significant enough to justify the need for the procedure.
