The debate regarding a woman's right to abortion has raged on even with the historical Supreme Court ruling on the case of Roe vs. Wade. It only underlines how the tides have changed regarding women and their bodies. The fact that this right is seen as an extension of a woman's right to her body is a point which many anti-abortion advocates find difficult to reconcile with in their arguments regarding the protection of the sanctity of life.
The gravity of the debate is further emphasized by how heatedly all the sectors involved will argue regarding what may seem like minutiae. Distinctions of when the a fetus is a human being, or the weight of the circumstances of the pregnancy on the decision(such as, rape or incest or medical difficulties)only highlight how this is a question that must be carefully discussed and considered.
Arguments regarding safety as deeming it illegal would push many women (in difficult situations) to seek abortions from unsavory and unlicensed amateurs are the more practical considerations of the abortion advocates. But the question of choice vs. life seems one that needs all the words it can take, because if we truly believe in our constitution then life and choice are actually the same thing.
