Probably because of the popularity of the Special Victims Unit of Law&Order, many people have become hyperaware of the evils of sexual deviance. And though the sex offenders database makes sense to those who are afraid for their wellbeing and for their children's wellbeing, doesn't it raise questions about people's rights? Similarly, doesn't this ruling (no matter how sensible it may seem—why allow one more person to get hurt?) open the door to a dangerous new world of how long we can keep our prisoners locked up? But that's just me playing devil's advocate.
