>>>Arlington County officials announced the county’s real estate assessments increased an average of 6 percent above last year’s numbers.
Single family home values increased by 1.4 percent, making the average value of a single family home in Arlington $510,200.
The overall increases will still vary by individual property. The county expects that 28 percent of residents will see no change in their home values, 25 percent will see decreases in varying amounts, and 47 percent will see varied increases. And therein lies the complication of real estate values: every property is different, and residents can often be confounded by the resulting tax bill.
Assessment letters are in the mail as we speak, but residents can check their 2011 assessed value online at the county’s property site.
