It's been 2.5 years since President Obama was elected, and still people are questioning whether or not he's an American citizen eligible for the Presidency (which didn't seem to bother them when he was a Senator.) It's difficult to separate the Birthers, the Tea Party Movement from your run-of-the-mill Republican, from whom you expect criticism—and though you may not agree with his politics, his charm, his fashion sense or even his calm demeanor, you can't deny that President Obama isn't afraid to tackle the difficult matters.
Even the Democrats though may not agree with just how he handles these things. Healthcare, medicare are still on people's minds even after it's been passed, mostly from the Republicans though. And though the noise has died down, the oil spill was a disaster that tested President Obama's mettle, and proved him that he's a cool cat even in the face of such things. Though unnerving, his calm is a refuge in the Korea nuclear standoff and even with Iran announcing their nuclear self-sufficiency. The last thing we need is a President with itchy trigger finger. Some Democrats would beg to disagree, his demeanor has made them doubt if the President can even empathize. Because as it may be logical that to bail out the auto and banking industries. Did he even hear how unemployment has made people wonder why their tax dollars were in the coffers of corporations who felt it was their right to give their executives over-the-top bonuses. Though now timing seems to be an issue because of the Bush-era tax cuts that the Republicans are out to extend and the Democrats may not have enough votes (after November's elections) to stop. All this, in the face of the ending of unemployment benefits right before the Holiday season.
Whether the midterm elections signalled a Lame Duck congress for President Obama, or even a foreboding single term, he's soldiered on with the help of some of the Democracts. Only willing to compromise on the difficult issue of tax cuts if the extension of unemployment benefits would get back on the table. This with the widespread Republican refusal to compromise on any legislation. Even with a budget deficit looming over everything like a dark storm cloud. Are we about to see a repeat of a Gingrich hold on the House and the eventual shutting down of government? There are so many issues, all tied to each other in this administration. Do we hope? Or are we ready to usher in a new leadership?
