Originally, churches were not taxed with the understanding that they were there to help the poor and those in need. However, in the light of new realities, it may be time to reconsider if the church should be tax exempt. Current estimates show that religious organizations own approx 20-25% of properties in the US. Moreover, with the kind of economic state the country is in, in addition to taxing all those corporations and millionaires/billionaires, taxing the churches should greatly help in boosting government revenues.
