>>>In what can only be characterized as a Hail Mary play, three Catholic bishops from Connecticut have released letters to stop a Connecticut bill eliminating the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse.
Currently, there are 5 states (Colorado, Idaho, Maine, Mississippi, and Rhode Island) which have no statute of limitations for crimes involving children and sexual abuse. Connecticut is one of the six states which peg the statute of limitations at least 20 years after the survivor's 18th birthday, with Connecticut at 30 years. If H.B. 5473 is passed, this will effectively eliminate the statute of limitations for crimes of child sexual abuse.
Stating that it "compromises sound judicial practices and imposes the burden of litigation expenses and damages upon Catholic institutions that the State is unwilling to impose upon itself", the Bishops claim that the bill is "unwise and unjust."
