In response to the spate of Indonesian women who suffer divorce at the hands of foreigners, there are proposals in Indonesia to require a monetary security guarantee that will act both as a deterrent and as safety net for the women. Responses to the proposal are varied, citing it as both as unreasonable and perhaps even a little too cheap.

But if there really is a problem of Indonesian women being duped by foreigners who are taking advantage of the more global market, then perhaps there is a deeper problem that needs to be solved.
