Pushed by a tiny animal rights party (occupies two seats in the Dutch Parliament), a bill that requires the stunning of animal before slaughter was proposed. Unfortunately, it eliminates an exception in the law provided for the Jewish and Muslim butchers—both religions with stringent rules regarding food (kosher and halal respectively)This bill will require for the importation of meat, but it also raises the interesting question of protecting religious rights within a secular society.
