Both intelligent design and science share the observable axiom. This axiom states that scientists can accurately observe their surroundings. Science also makes use of the naturalistic axiom. With this axiom, science assumes that every event that has happened, is happening or will happen can be explained by math, chemistry, physics and biology. In other words, if God exists he is not and never was allowed to ever do anything that we as people can observe or perceive in any way....

With this axiom, science assumes that every event that has happened, is happening or will happen can be explained by math, chemistry, physics and biology. In other words, if God exists he is not and never was allowed to ever do anything that we as people can observe or perceive in any way.
When science assumes that all events have a naturalistic explanation, it also assumes that the theory of evolution is true. The naturalistic axiom does not allow scientists to consider the possibility that perhaps God used evolution as a tool to create the diversity and complexity that we see in life today or that God created life and gave it the ability to adapt and improve through evolution. Science simply assumes that these possibilities are false; As a result, scientific experiments focus on how evolution happens. No justification is required to explain why science cannot explain the origin of life. No justification is required when a scientist extrapolates the small changes that evolution can bring about in experiments to the large ones required for a simple amoebae to evolve into a human. Science simply assumes that evolution is responsible.
Intelligent design is much more flexible in that it does not assume that God does not exist. So with intelligent design one can evaluate the scientific evidence for what it is rather than what it needs to be to satisfy the initial assumptions. This allows us to formulate a more accurate and truthful picture of the universe and our place in it. Intelligent design and evolution are complementary theories. Because science must use the naturalistic axiom (scientific experiments can not test whether or not God does something), intelligent design finds its greatest use when evolution fails to explain why or how life originated. Even after a thousand years of research, if science fails to explain the origin of life, science can not say "God must have done it." Intelligent design can say it today based on the last hundred years of research.
Intelligent design is not creation science. Creation science assumes that the Biblical account of creation is scientifically accurate and then interprets the scientific evidence accordingly.
