>>>More than ever, the campaign towards establishing fundamental rights for animals is gaining momentum. It has reached a point wherein Animal Law is becoming a new area of study. The focal point of animal law is changing the legal system that allows for the treatment of animals as property and provide very little legal protection for their welfare. Proponents of Animal Law draw their inspiration from anti-slavery and civil rights movements. Also, they argue that animals should have similar rights to those of a child or a person in a coma.
Critics of Animal Law, however, point out the difficulties that this will pose to many professions and industries that deal with the use of animals. One of these industries is pharmaceutical research. The food industry is also highly likely to be affected.
