>>>For many people, zoos and ocean parks are sources of education, information and recreation. Not only that, zoos and ocean parks also helps preserving animals that are endangered from the wild. Also, today animal habitats in zoos and oceanariums have been created to closely resemble the animals’ natural habitat in the wild.
However, a recent study published in the journal Science found that elephants in zoos, in spite of that fact that they are in a predator-free environment, live only half as long as elephants who survive in their natural habitats. Critics from different animal welfare groups also claim that zoos and ocean parks cannot replicate the natural environment.
“The best way to help wild animals is to protect their native habitats, not to put more of them behind bars,” says PETA Director Jason Baker.
