Supporters of creationism insist that the subject is not about religion but is a legitimate science. But unlike materialistic, naturalistic science, creationism posits a design and point towards supernatural elements as a “designer.”
Critics of creationism, on the other hand, say that teaching creationism violates the Constitution because it is as good as allowing religion to be taught in public schools. They say the push for teaching creation science is motivated by the fear that religion is under attack by the study of evolution. Moreover, critics say that creationism cannot be considered as falling under science because its claims are not empirically testable.
